This large redware vessel would have been used to store foods such as lard, honey, fruits, vegetables, or meats (Mazrim 2007:196). It was not designed to have a lid. The redware vessels found at Davidsonville may have been made in a family-owned pottery in southern Illinois (Mazrim 2007:184-185).
